the slat house.
A 1-kanal contemporary residence in DHA Phase 5, Lahore, organised around a vertical timber slat motif that defines the front elevation. Concept stage, BloxDot architecture and interior design.
a contemporary residence on 1 kanal.
The Slat House is a concept-stage residence on a 1-kanal plot in DHA Phase 5, Lahore. The front elevation takes its name from the project. Vertical timber slats run across the upper storey, screening private rooms from the street while letting daylight and ventilation through. The slat module repeats at smaller scales on the boundary wall, gate, and terrace screens, giving the house a single, consistent language.
BloxDot is taking the project from concept through architecture and interior design. The plan organises a full residential program across two storeys: living, dining, kitchen, bedrooms, study, gym, and a billiards room set around a central courtyard atrium that connects ground and first floors visually.

the slat as the language.
The defining decision on The Slat House was committing to a single architectural device and pulling it through every scale of the project. Vertical timber slats appear on the upper-storey façade as a privacy screen, on the terrace railings as balustrade, on the boundary wall as gate detailing, and inside as ceiling and joinery articulation. One language, repeated with discipline.
The slat motif solves a real problem. DHA Phase 5 plots sit close to the street with limited setback. The first floor needs daylight and air, but the rooms inside need privacy. A solid wall would close the building off. A glass façade would expose it. Vertical slats with a calibrated gap let the rooms breathe while reading as opaque from the street, and they become a sculptural element at dusk when interior light passes through them outward.
The interior plan organises around a central courtyard atrium with an indoor pool at its centre. Public rooms (living, dining, billiards, kitchen) sit on the ground floor with views across the atrium. Private rooms (master bedroom, kids' room, study) sit upstairs behind the slat screen. A home gym opens onto the pool court, with a floating staircase connecting the levels through the double-height void. The interior palette stays disciplined: walnut, dark coffered ceilings, soft plaster, warm linear lighting throughout.
